We at Fletcher are very excited to start using our new I-Movix system. For the first time, I-Movix has made a complete package based on the single chip high speed cameras. The camera system makes the usage of the camera familiar to anyone in the broadcast industry. It incorporates a hand-held camera body with integrated viewfinder, tally and intercom all running down a single SMPTE fiber to a CCU in the truck. These improvements increase reliability and picture quality while greatly reducing setup and training. We look forward to using it on NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL telecasts this year."

We had to shoot a huge selection of various sports, in a very tight schedule, for a sport promotional HD short. Thanks to highly qualified I-Movix operator, in only one big afternoon, we've been able to capture shots from tennis, bicycle, rugby, football, running, polevault and 110m hurdles!
Despite the fact that slomo images are becoming more and more popular, they still bring their magic to whatever motion you're pointing at. I mean this is the definitive hires capture you can dream of : high spatial definition because it's true HD signal, and high temporal definition because you can shoot up to 2,000 fps, capturing what eyes have just never seen before!. Shooting with Sprintcam V3 HD make you feel like Galileo when he first tried his home-made telescope : what you're looking at has just never been seen by anyone before! And that's true for so many yet unexplored applications! For my sports shooting session, I was looking for a creative and innovative way to illustrate sports diversity while linking together all these different activities thru a common factor : motion. Slomo capture appeared as an evidence, so we've decided to go for it.
Awesomeness can appear at each shot, whatever it was intended or not. Luck is still a major actor, because when shooting real time, you are actually totally unable to see what you'll get once played back. For this reason, on the field realtime playback is an absolutely vital feature, and Sprintcam realtime playback is just a dream. Instant Jog/shuttle into huge ram buffer is just a pleasure! As we needed to move fast from one shooting location to another, we went for the most light weighted recording solution : AJA - IO-HD box, MacbookPro, and Final Cut. So things were : shoot, replay, record, next one!
About image quality, amazing improvements have been made these last years, and Sprintcam V3 HD appears as the mature system we can now go for. With hispeed systems, you usually have to deal with specific artifacts due to highly specialized fast sensor. SprintCam V3 HD pushed down artifacts from annoying to barely noticeable, and that is a huge improvement. Now slomo image can really be mixed with realtime footage, and edited with unnoticeable quality shift over regular footage. So slomo is not just a "demo thing" anymore, and becomes part of modern filmic vocabulary, as well as digital timelapse did some years ago. The overall experience with the V3 HD system was extremely positive. This is not a portable gear for sure, but we've been able to use it as if, plugging and unplugging everything many times, and it just ran smooth on every shot. How satisfied am I ? Answer is "when are we gonna shoot with that beast again ?!"
