Mons, Belgium – Thanks to Chicago-based sports production specialists Fletcher Sports, the I-MOVIX X10 UHD technology has been used during the NFL Super Bowl XLIX Big Game, held at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona.
For this very prestigious world sporting event – and one of the most watched game with an average record of 114,4 million US viewers – Fletcher Sports deployed a fleet of five I-MOVIX X10 UHD cameras.
“With supplying five systems to NBC for the Super Bowl it was very evident that the I‑MOVIX/ Flex 4K system is able to interface and operate like a traditional broadcast camera system. Tech Managers are always happy when a specialty camera system requires traditional cabling (a single SMPTE fiber or two strands of single mode through a supplied shed), Camera operators are happy when specialty cameras operate like a traditional camera (clean hard camera build up sled with return video paths, intercom, and tally), and Video Engineers are happy to be handed a CCU and fully operational paintbox with traditional outputs and controls”, said Ed Andrzejewski, Sports and Entertainment Division, Fletcher Group LLC.
Combining the core X10 ultra-motion technology with Vision Research’s Phantom® Flex4K camera, X10 UHD is the most advanced solution with 4K and HD ultra-slow and continuous super-slow motion capabilities available for multi-role shooting.
“The most exciting thing for us at Fletcher this past football season wasn’t just supplying this new level of hi-speed 4K technology, but being able to see what an impact these systems have on the games themselves. We have seen several replays this past season on both College and Pro Football were the clear 4K images from the I-MOVIX/ 4K Flex systems have helped support a Referee’s call and/ or turn over a Referee’s call on a coach’s challenge”, said Ed Andrzejewski, Sports and Entertainment Division, Fletcher Group LLC.
When used in 4K, the X10 UHD system operates in USM mode to deliver instant replays of up to 1,000fps. For continuous non-stop recording, SSM mode delivers up to 120fps at 4Kp60. When operating in HD resolutions (1080p or 1080i) the system provides up to 600fps in continuous SSM mode, and up to 2,000fps in USM Live and Replay mode.
