R&D collaboration between I-Movix and the UCL's Telecommunications PDF Print E-mail
Mons, Belgique Feb 05, 2008
Since the creation of the cluster TWIST and more precisely since the ACF show in Brussels, I-Movix is working in collaboration for the R&D with two researchers of Professor Benoît Macq's team (one Belgian researcher and one Chinese researcher) in order to improve the picture treatment's algorithm of I-Movix's cameras in real time of 500 to 5,000 images per second.
The university and the company are also working in narrow collaboration with the view of developing a new image's filter necessary to control the "flicking" effect. This effect of light's jitter comes as a shooting is made at a minimum speed of capture equal to twice the ambient lighting frequency. In Belgium, where the usual lighting is 50 Hz high, shooting at minimum 100 images per second, this disturbing effect causes interference on cameras.

This R&D collaboration should be effective for at least one year lasting and come to conclusion with one granted patent's publication at least.

Implementation of image filters
The developments resulting from those modifications will be applied for the NAB 2007 show taking place from April 14 to April 17, 2008 in Las Vegas.

About Cluster Twist

The Cluster TWIST (Technologies Wallonnes de l'Image, du Son et du Texte) groups together active companies in the fields of numerical pictures, sound and text. TWIST aims to encourage partnerships and synergies between the different members of the cluster in order to promote the development of companies. The Cluster has also the mission to increase and promote the technological development and the innovation leading to the creation of new activities or new products.

Cluster TWIST's mission also aims for the increasing of economical repercussions in favour of Walloon companies (in particular for VSE and SME), to give them an access to expertise and information in the fields of numerical pictures, sound and text, to make aware to public, to circles specialized in Cluster's activities and to its members, to reinforce dialog with institutions and authorities (collective requests for the establishment of new help programs, R&D, infrastructures, trainings, etc.).

In practical terms, the association arouses meetings between its members, develops information tools with a list of intervening parties and other useful information for the Walloon fields of numerical pictures, sound and text and related fields and follows tenders and partnership requests, in particular in R&D.

TWIST also defines the training needs of companies working in this field, which are facing a lack of qualified workforce, and initiates training programs in order to suit at best the enterprise's needs.
